The help system is not working correctly with my CONVAL network installation. What can I do?
1) I can't find the data for a particular valve manufacturer in the database. What should I do?
The data in the valve database is normally provided by the manufacturers themselves. If you can't find the manufacturer you're looking for,
please contact them directly.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you would like to see any new manufacturers included in the database.
2) I don’t see any images in the print preview, only blank pages are showing! What is the reason?
This can happen if on your system no other printer driver is installed except the CONVAL PDF printer.
If you install any printer (driver) on the system, e.g. a standard HP laser jet, then the preview and pdf export function will work properly.
3) I want to switch the CONVAL user interface to another language. Some characters are not shown accurately. How can I fix this?
CONVAL is not Unicode enabled so whatever the current system settings are in Windows® are the ones that are used. To change them, select
Control panel -> Region and language options -> Extended. Then choose the language from the dropdown list in the group
"Language for non-unicode applications."
4) Can I send a CONVAL calculation as an e-mail in another format (e.g. pdf), so that the person receiving it can still read it even if they don't have a copy of CONVAL?
CONVAL allows you to send calculations either directly or as PDF file, which other people can then read and print out using Adobe® Acrobat® Reader (free
reader available here).
5) When does CONVAL reserve a network license?
A license is reserved the minute you start a new calculation or open an existing one. It is not released again until you either close the calculation or fail to make any inputs in CONVAL for a defined time period.
If, for instance, a colleague of yours goes off to lunch leaving a calculation open on the screen, their license will be released again for other people to use after a fixed time.
6) Can CONVAL be run on a Windowsâ„¢ terminal server?
CONVAL can be run without any restrictions on a Windows™ terminal server solution such as CITRIX®.
As far as the license side is concerned, you will definitely need to purchase a global network license. CONVAL will not recognize a local dongle on the terminal server. A network license module is detected correctly, on the other hand, and each terminal session with CONVAL obtains its license from this license module.
7) The help system does not work correctly with a CONVAL network installation. What can I do?
The issue with the CONVAL help system might be caused by a Microsoft security update.
Excerpt from the Microsoft webpage:
"Certain Web sites and HTML Help features may not work after you install security update 896358 or security update 890175
SYMPTOMS
After you install security update 896358 or security update 890175, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
-
Certain kinds of Web-based programs may not work correctly. For example, a table of contents in HTML Help may no longer work.
-
Certain HTML Help features may not work when you open a .chm file from a remote location. For example, the Related Topics feature may not work."

A registry patch is
available here, which allows the access to HTML files in the local intranet.
