Job Description: Software Development Manager

Please note: This is a full-time, non-contractual position.

Engineered Software, Inc. (ESI) produces software to perform engineering calculations and select industrial equipment. We have a dedicated team of engineers, programmers and sales/marketing professionals. Together we design & implement cutting edge software solutions for engineering design and troubleshooting applications. We sell those solutions directly to a vertical market from large industrial users to small consulting engineering firms. We also offer training services and publication distribution, both business sectors that are rapidly expanding. We are known for being a leader and innovator within our industry - both in the U.S. and globally.

ESI is located in Lacey, WA, a quiet suburban area at the south end of Puget Sound, 60 miles from Seattle. We are currently hiring a Software Development Manager. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this key leadership role is responsible for managing and coordinating the resources and processes to deliver releases of ESI software products. In conjunction with senior management, this role will help to define the ESI vision and strategy and be responsible for creating a software development plan to drive project initiatives that meet both the current and future needs of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management responsibility for a team of nine professional software developers and developers in test.
  • Work with customer-facing product owners to adequately define scope, determine realistic estimates of resource requirements and establish timelines for proposed software projects.
  • Work together with team leads to plan and execute projects - ensure that teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products that meet or exceed customer requirements while meeting established deadlines.
  • Track and report the status of projects on various teams, acting as a gateway through which work should be assigned to appropriate teams while ensuring that project scope is adequately defined.
  • Develop and implement departmental standards including coding practice policy, documentation requirements and architecture design standards.
  • Help developers resolve both technical and human resource issues. Monitor individual employees’ performance and conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong leadership, project management, time management, and problem solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of the software development cycle and how effective development teams operate.
  • Ability to excel in evaluation and prioritization, as well as cross-functional technical program management.
  • A record of successful delivery of software systems as an individual, team leader and/or development manager.
  • A willingness to dive into software environments and technical issues as part of maintaining the skills necessary to manage and advocate products and projects.
    Background in computer programming in C++ and/or C# utilizing object-oriented design principles.
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to get things done.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a team player who can motivate and interact with a diverse set of employees.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field required.
  • Must have at least 7 years experience with increasing responsibility working through the design, development and release cycle delivering software to market.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management/leadership experience in a software development organization preferred.
Compensation: Salary for this position will include base salary and company profit sharing. We offer a full benefits package, however no relocation is available.

Marketing Intern Position

We have a dedicated team of engineers, programmers, and sales/marketing professionals. Together we design & implement innovative software solutions for engineering design and troubleshooting applications. We sell those solutions directly to a vertical market from the large industrial users to small consulting engineering firms. We are known for being a leader and innovator within our industry both in the U.S. and globally.

Engineered Software is growing software company in Lacey WA, 60 miles from Seattle, in a quiet suburban area at the south end of Puget Sound. We are looking for an intelligent and motivated Marketing Intern to help us continue to spread the word about our award winning software and new training programs.

We are looking for a part time marketing intern to assist our public relations and marketing efforts; flexible days and hours. We have a variety of projects that this position will be involved with that include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in writing/editing of company e-newsletters
  • Assist with Marketing projects, including but not limited to:
    • Graphic design of marketing pieces
    • Writing and copy editing assignments
    • Campaign support
    • Public relations and special events activities
  • Assist with reporting and analysis of marketing programs
  • Assist with customer surveys & testimonials
  • Assist with sending out marketing promotions
  • Assist in building and maintaining client and customer relations
  • Other projects as needed

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with layout and design programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, etc.) as well as blogging programs, and social media is also preferred, but not required.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Must be working toward a BA or BS from a four-year college or university. Minimum Junior status with declared major in, public relations, communications, marketing, and/or journalism preferred. Credit will be given for industry experience.
  • Experience working in a professional office setting preferred
  • Business to business marketing experience preferred but not required

Compensation: Salary for this position will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Engineered Software will also work with the successful candidate with securing college credit for the internship, if needed. Work Study also available.

Territory Manager (Sales): Step into a role in an established territory- selling software to engineers both domestically and internationally. If you have prior selling success and possess strong prospecting and closing skills, this is the position for you.

Engineer: We utilize engineers (ME, ChE or CE) that have a working knowledge of how to analyze fluid piping systems, compressible gas systems, paper stock piping systems, or pump selection. Our engineers fill many roles- piping system analysis support, product training, pre-sales engineering support, engineering feature development of analysis software packages, documentation, and more. A knowledge of process Logic Controllers and their use in the field is also a skill that is beneficial.

Software Developers (Some in Test): Our developers have strong object oriented design and programming skills, and opportunities to work with the latest development techniques and technologies. They work in a very creative and collaborative environment supporting an industry leading product.

CAD Digitization Technician: Prints and organizes paper catalog in preparation for digitization. Digitizes pump performance curves. Tests digitized curves using PUMP-FLO software for any anomalies. Beneficial Skills include: ability to read and correctly interpret information from a graph, type 40 words per minute, 10 key knowledge, proficiency with MS Outlook and Excel and familiarity with basic PC and network file organization.

Office Personnel: We utilize office personnel who have extraordinary organizational aptitude. Additional skills in accounting, invoicing, and order taking, handling customer inquiries and handling day to day office needs are a necessary requirement.

Internship- Co-op Positions Available:
Engineered Software has an active internship/ Co-op program for college and university students majoring in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Marketing. All interns and Co-ops will be working on active projects and receive compensation.
